Focus

“What you focus on grows, what you think about expands, and what you dwell upon determines your destiny.”
-Robin Sharma

Have you noticed how something you focus on keeps growing? You want to buy a certain car and suddenly you notice it more often on the road? How about a crush on someone and all you can think about is that person? That is the power of focus.

Back in 2008, when I started my first job, I used to travel with my father to work. He would drop me off at work, early in the morning, then he would go about his business. Later in the afternoon, he would pick me up after I knocked off. We spent most of the time listening to Talk Radio 702 – a popular radio station in South Africa.

The early morning radio show was easier to comprehend, as the presenters mostly discussed general affairs. The late afternoon show was the peculiar one for me. They discussed financial topics such as the stock market, personal finance, and economics. At the time, I hardly understood anything that was discussed.

Eventually I developed an interest in the financial topics – particularly the stock market. I started reading more on the topics discussed on the radio show, and even bought books that were discussed. As of now, I understand almost anything that is discussed on that same show.

It took me years of focus to get to a point where I can now discuss personal finance, investments and the stock market with confidence and accuracy. The same type of focus has got me to enjoy and love entrepreneurship. It is for that very reason, I am writing this.

Ask yourself: what do you focus on a lot? What do you allow your mind to wonder about? Whatever it is, the impact of that focus on your life is significant. Hopefully you are focusing on things that add value to you and those around you.

P.S. The featured image in this post happens to be one of my favourite cars (Ford Focus). From the day I fell in love with that car, many years ago, I have never lost focus ðŸ™‚. Cheers
