“Tricks” that work on me – Email lists

“Tricks” that work on me is a series of articles where I discuss a set of events that led me to buy something. The so called tricks tend to be linked to online marketing. I am hoping that by sharing this, you can incorporate the lessons into your own businesses and make lots of moola.

A previous article in this series discussed the Amazon 1-Click button. The featured trick in this article is email lists.

On many websites – including this one – a user (website visitor) can subscribe by providing their email address to be part of the website’s email list. This makes it easier for website owners to communicate with their users (subscribers). That communication can also include offering products for sale to the subscribers.

From my experience there are two types of email list owners: 1) those that send frequent emails with various content and offer products to sale once in a while, and 2) those that only send an email when they have something to sell. I have found both approaches to be effective.

I only subscribe to an email list when I am interested in the content. This makes it probable that any content received is relevant – including any products being sold. For example, there are several authors I like and whenever they release a new book, they announce that on their email lists and provide a link to buy the new book. I have found myself buying these books through such emails. Even. When. I. Shouldn’t.

Imagine having such a powerful means to communicate with your subscribers – including the ability to create direct sales. And there are many tools that make it very easy to have an email list (helps to have traffic on your website) – and are commonly referred to as email marketing services. I use MailChimp on this website. Another popular tool I have considered using is ConvertKit.

I recommend giving these email marketing services a try for your business as another means to stay in touch with your clients, and also as a platform to market and sell your products and services.
