I am extremely lucky to have a dream maker. Several of them in fact. Who is a dream maker? It is someone that enables and supports your dreams and goals. I came across this term while reading a devotional a few days ago. Going through that devotional made me ponder on the dream makers I have in my life.
A dream maker can be a spouse, a friend, a colleague or a family member. This is a person that behaves in one or more of the following ways:
– Holds you accountable for your goals – which hopefully includes showing tough love when you are slacking off
– Motivates you
– Supports you
The opposite of a dream maker is a dream breaker. Such a person has the potential to either delay or stop your dreams by discouraging you. I am obviously not a fan of such people, so I will not dwell much on explaining further. Just try and stay away from dream breakers.
Why is a dream maker important? Since we do not live in a vacuum, chances are we have colleagues, friends and family in our lives. We tend to share our desires with these people. Once we open up ourselves to such people, they can either be our dream makers or dream breakers. Of course, there is room for neutrality – people that are neither. A dream maker has the potential to accelerate your journey to achieving your goals which eventually can lead to you living your dreams. It is important to identify such people and share your goals and dreams with them. They can make all the difference. Such people are the reason I am writing this – some motivated me to stop procrastinating and start writing while others told me I have what it takes.
As I embark on a journey to pursuing my dreams, I will focus my time and energy on dream makers. Hopefully in the process I will become some body’s dream maker.
