I don’t feel like marketing

There are certain tasks in life that I don’t enjoy doing. One of them is marketing. I don’t like doing sales either. And yet, I have to do those tasks in order to support my entrepreneurship journey.

Doing what is necessary is not easy, especially when you don’t feel like it. How many times do you wake up early in the morning to go to work or the gym, even when you do not feel like it? I am guessing most of the time.

I like a quote by Jahangir Khan that reads, “Without hard work and discipline it is difficult to be a top professional.” Discipline involves doing what is required to get done even when you don’t feel like it. I admit, it’s easier said than done. But it’s not impossible.

My closest friends and family consider me an introvert. Let’s just say, as much as I value great company, solitude is bliss for me. I managed to get away with avoiding as many social functions as possible for so many years. I could just stick to doing what I was comfortable with. Then I decided to become an entrepreneur.

That is when I discovered that I would have to face my fears – and get out of my comfort zone. I learned that sales and marketing are crucial to the success of any business. Can you imagine the shock and disappointment I had when I found that out? Terrible.

As time went by, and I was getting to grips with the value of sales and marketing, I started enjoying it. I discovered that – when done properly – marketing can help grow a company from a start-up to a successful global business. Amazing.

I might not feel like marketing sometimes, but I keep reminding myself why it is necessary and important. Entrepreneurship aside, every time you go for an interview, or try to convince someone to buy into an idea, you are marketing and selling.

Hustle on, even when you don’t feel like it sometimes.
