I recently came across some “words of wisdom” by Nic Marks that I bookmarked a while ago – and thought they are worth sharing. Nic Marks discusses “5 ways to a richer life”.
The first thing that came to mind when I read the heading was money. Many people – including myself – associate the word “rich” with material success. And yet there is more to richness of life than with just money.
Having a balanced life – where we have meaningful relationships, a vocation we hopefully love and enjoy, a healthy lifestyle, and a positive impact on society – is what defines a truly rich life.
Without further ado, here are the five ways to a richer life as mentioned by Nic Marks:
1) Connect with people – because our social relationships are the most important thing in our lives.
2) Be active – because it is a proven fact that regular physical activity will create wellbeing.
3) Notice – be involved with what’s going on around you in the world, pay attention to what you hear and try to act on it when you can.
4) Keep learning – because being a life-long learner will help to create meaning and engagement in your life.
5) Give – try to give your time and money, but, most importantly, give of yourself.
Living a richer life is possible. As with almost everything in life, it starts with actions that eventually lead to habits. Take action on the above five points one day at a time. With just a matter of time, they will become part of your lifestyle.
